A Team Qualifications

A Team members are the elite of the USCDA the highest rated and best trained.  These volunteer, non-compensated positions are made up of people from all walks of life who want to be 1st responders and provide disaster relief during natural and man made disasters when regular emergency and relief services are overwhelmed or unavailable. They are dedicated to serving the public and help to save lives as a way to give back to their community.

Mandatory requirements in order to apply as a candidate for USCDA A Team you must have completed successfully both FEMA  IS 100.b  Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS)) and IS 700.a  Introduction to National Incident Management System (NIMS and be a USCDA Leadership member,  be mission ready, must be at least 18 years old, there is no upper age limit.

Be a US citizen, have a valid State driver’s license and be in good health.

Candidates must have documentation of qualifications and passport type color photo of their likeness sent to USCDA Headquarters, Maj: David West A Team Commander at 301  Forest Ave, Laguna Beach, CA 92651 to start the process. As each Chapter stands up  you’ll be notified for local interview. USCDA plans to hold recruiting meetings for the volunteer A Team program at USCDA local Chapters across the country. Time and dates to be announced.

To become a candidate for the USCDA – A Team you must have ten (10) points or more. You must be in the USCDA leadership program and in good standing. This is based on a ten (10) point must system. Verifiable fields of expertise must add up to ten (10) points or more to qualify. When two members are of the same rank the A Team member rank prevails.

Hand to hand combat – W/ current Certification = one (1) point.

Must have reached the rank of private, or greater = One (1) point. Mandatory. 

Must be current member USCDA leadership program Two (2) points. Mandatory

Compleded  IS 100.b  Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS))Two (2)points. Mandatory

Compleded IS 700.a  Introduction to National Incident Management System (NIMS Two (2)points. Mandatory

U.S. Military Veteran = two (2) points Combat Veteran Three (3) points

Emergency Medical Technician W/ current Certification = Two (2) Points. Certification longer than five years ago one (1) point.

Current City, County, State, or Volunteer fire fighters or Wildland fire fighters = Two (2) points. Longer than five years ago One (1) point.

Current City, County, State or Federal Law enforcement officer = Two (2) points. Longer than five years ago = (1) point. Current SWAT member three (3) points. No longer than five years ago Two (2) points.

Current licensed HAM Radio Operators =Two (2) points

Wilderness Survival – W/ current Certification = Two (2) points. Instructor = (3) points.

Sky diver – W/ current Certification = Two (2) points. Instructor = Three (3) points

Scuba and free diving – W/ current Certification = Two (2) Points. Instructor Three (3) points.

Weapons expertise qualified with A/R 15, 45 cal or 9 mm Simi auto hand gun, riot pump shotgun 12 gauge 7 round tube. = Two (2) Points. Instructor = Three (3) points.

Operating Engineers = Two [2) points. With own equipment Three (3) points

Licensed pilot fixed wing or chopper = Two (2) points. Own aircraft = Three (3) points

Demolition expert including under water – W/ current Certification = Two (2) Points.

Search and Rescue – W/current SAR certification = Two (2) points

Search and rescue dog handler – W/Dog = Two (2) points.

Search and rescue person with horse =Two (2) points

Search and rescue person with Four wheel drive 4X4 =Two (2) points

Jungle, desert and mountain warfare – W/ current Certifications = Two (2) points. Instructor Three (3) points.

USCDA Officer = Three (3) points.

Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management or related field. = Three (3) points.

Registered Nurse = Four (4) points.

Masters degree in Emergency Management or related field = Four (4) points.

U.S. currently Licensed M.D. = Five points.

U.S. Navy Seals and other U.S. Special Forces training current or within five years = five (5) points. Longer than ten years ago three (3) points.

Prospects in order to be considered as a candidate for the USCDA A Team forward all certifications and qualifications to HQ’s or Fax. Prospects can also send attention Bio/resume.

Number of points needed to become an A Team candidate can change without notice.
